Terror fears don't trump Constitution, court rules

CNN.com - Terror fears don't trump Constitution, court rules - Oct 16, 2004

"We cannot simply suspend or restrict civil liberties until the War of Terror is over, because the War on Terror is unlikely ever to be truly over," Judge Gerald Tjoflat wrote for the three-member court. "September 11, 2001, already a day of immeasurable tragedy, cannot be the day liberty perished in this country."

Very nicely put. I really hope this sets some good precedent....

And since this also connects to School of Americas (read the article)... if you were wondering what it is, it's basically a place where we train military from Latin America. Now this in itself is not a bad thing really, it's just when these people that we train use what they have learned at SOA to oppress, murder, and otherwise torture their own people. SOAW.org. I have visited El Salvador and actually talked with people who were affected by the policies and training that America provided for the Government (read dictatorship) during it's civil war again the rebels (read "communists" [though most just wanted a fair distribution of land] and think Red Scare and "anything but communism approach to foreign policy" of the '70's - '91). It truly should be shut down. The USA has a dismal record in Latin American affairs.
