This is what happens when old people run the show, when students take the entire blame for a situation that was created by misunderstandings on both sides. It's all in their approach. It's pure psychology basically... Create an "us vs. them" mentality and that's what's going to happen. We all recall the Stanford Prison Experiment.
Now I don't advocate rioting (btw it wasn't even a riot compared to real riots like in LA etc) nor the destructive behavior that some idiots choose to partake in, but I also think that the conditions would not have been met for a riot to ensue had different measures been taken (think UCSB on Halloween). But alas, this is a conservative town... if you can't beat them into submission the first time, try, try again (with bigger sticks of course) because that gets to the root of the problem. I digress. Check out the link below that spawned this whole post.
Mardi Gras San Luis Obispo
We'll all know monday the results of this wonderful new policy (which I believe is costing the city about as much as the riots cost us last year). Anyways that's my two cents on the situation. Have a safe and fun Mardi Gras!
